Please join us for our regular October 2021 meeting as we get restarted with our special guest presenter, Tim Isaacs with NuScale Power.
NuScale made history in 2020 becoming the first ever Small Modular Reactor (SMR) to receive design approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). SMRs represent a radical rethinking of nuclear power technology in a regulatory environment that still largely bases itself on 1960’s-era technologies.
A single SMR generates just 77 megawatts inside the footprint of a substation. Compare that to our own Browns Ferry nuclear plant at more than 1,000 megawatts on 840 acres and you can begin to see the challenges that can arise in the regulatory environment, especially in our Nation’s new focus on cybersecurity in critical infrastructure.
Join us as Mr. Isaacs gives us an overview of this new technology and describes how NuScale has developed their cybersecurity strategy to meet both the modern threat and legacy bureaucracy.
